Dr. Volkov and the Voices in the Void

Dr. Ivan Volkov was once a respected astrophysicist working at a top-secret Russian research facility specializing in deep-space transmissions. His team had spent years analysing classified satellite audio, picking apart strange frequencies and eerie signals collected from the darkest reaches of the cosmos. But several recordings stood out—chilling, fragmented transmissions unlike anything they had encountered before. Volkov became obsessed, convinced that what he was hearing wasn’t just cosmic noise, but something more… deliberate.

Against strict protocols, he covertly copied the audio files onto an encrypted drive, labelling them “Voices in the Void”, then making multiple copies onto CDs. With debts mounting and his disillusionment with the government growing, he saw an opportunity. He disappeared from the lab one night, taking the stolen samples with him, and resurfaced in the shadows of Russia’s black market. Using anonymous contacts, he sold the recordings to wealthy collectors and underground organizations, all eager to own a piece of something forbidden. The money flowed, and for a time, Volkov felt untouchable.

But the Russian government was watching. When the authorities finally tracked him down, he was taken in the dead of night—no trial, no public arrest, just a van pulling up and Volkov vanishing into the cold Russian winter. No records, no official statements. Some say he was imprisoned in a secret facility, forced to decode transmissions he barely understood. Others believe he was silenced permanently, his body buried where no one would ever find it.

To this day, whispers of “Voices in the Void” circulate in the darkest corners of the internet, the audio samples resurfacing in hidden forums. But as for Dr. Volkov—he was never heard from again.

The yellow label reads:
